Bioscience: AI for Tissue Analysis
Sioux improves fluorescence microscopy image analysis with spectral unmixing, AI-based cell segmentation, and explainable AI for biological tissue research.
Thermo Fisher Scientific is a leading global supplier of electron microscopes and imaging solutions. Their microscopes are contributing to research institutes and laboratories all over the world.
The customer’s challenge
An analytical equipment manufacturer is developing a fluorescence microscopy system for biological tissue analysis. The system enables researchers to study the effects of vaccines, drugs, or cosmetics on human tissue, requiring the identification and analysis of individual cells within each sample.
Sioux’s contribution
Sioux improved key stages of the image analysis pipeline to support faster processing and high-quality analysis, combining spectral unmixing, AI-based cell segmentation, and explainable AI.
Result
The improved image analysis pipeline accurately and efficiently separates images into components corresponding to individual stains, while AI-based cell segmentation enables faster, more accurate cell detection and localization. An explainable AI tool supports visual inspection and interpretation of biologically relevant features. Together, these improvements help researchers analyse individual cells faster and more accurately, supporting more efficient studies of the effects of vaccines, drugs, and cosmetics on human tissue.
